Seven kinds of ground

What each one asks of the pipes.

1

Nashville Basin: clay, limestone and mature shade trees

The Nashville Basin pairs stiff clay over limestone with decades-old neighborhoods and tall shade trees. Older clay and cast iron laterals, root-hungry joints and low spots that hold water are the story below ground. A camera shows what a cable cannot, and the right cleaning or repair follows from the picture.

2

Mississippi Delta: flat ground and high water tables

The Mississippi Delta is flat, and flat ground drains slowly. Water tables rise after storms, low lots hold water and sewer lines have little fall to work with. Backwater valves, sump pumps, yard drains and routine jetting help keep wastewater moving and water out of the house.

3

West Tennessee: loess bluffs and tree-lined subdivisions

West Tennessee's loess soils are silty, drain well in places and wash away quickly in others. Mature trees in older subdivisions put roots into sewer joints, and heavy storms test every yard drain and sump. Camera inspections, root removal and good drainage keep lines clear and lots stable.

4

Blue Ridge: mountain homes on steep, wooded lots

Blue Ridge homes sit on steep, wooded lots with fast runoff, rock close to the surface and long utility runs. Culverts, yard drains and septic systems need clearing before storms, and rental cabins and restaurants lean hard on grease control and fast response after busy weekends.

5

Cumberland Plateau: sandstone, septic and long lines

The Cumberland Plateau is sandstone, shallow soil and forest, and many homes use septic systems rather than city sewer. Tanks need regular pumping, drain fields need protection from roots and compaction, and long lines need clearing when a slow drain turns into a backup.

6

Valley and Ridge: hills, creeks and fast runoff

East Tennessee's long valleys and ridges give neighborhoods hills, creeks and fast runoff. Steep lots stress drains, storm water cuts across driveways and older lines settle where the ground has moved. Sewer cleaning, camera checks and drainage that sends water away from the house all earn their keep.

7

Highland Rim: rolling hills and red clay

The Highland Rim is rolling red-clay country with long slopes and plenty of rain. Hillside lots mean long laterals, deep cleanouts and water that needs a planned path away from the house. Good drainage and a sewer line that keeps its fall keep yards dry and basements clear.
