A clogged main line, opened today.
When every drain in the house is slow or stopped, the blockage is in the main line. We open it with a heavy-duty cable or a jetter and tell you what we found.
- Equipment: Heavy cable machines and jetters
- Typical visit: One to three hours
- Follow-up: Camera check on request or when the cause is unclear

What it is, and why it matters.
The main line is the single pipe that carries everything from the house to the sewer, so when it clogs, everything stops at once. Toilets rise, tubs gurgle and the lowest drain in the house gives up first. Grease, paper products, wipes, roots and a pipe that has sagged are the usual causes.
We find the main cleanout, usually outside near the foundation or in the basement, and feed a heavy cable or a jetting hose toward the blockage. Once the line opens we run water through the house and, when the cause is not obvious, send a camera through to see roots, scale or a low spot. A Nashville home with older clay or cast iron pipe often needs that look to stop the repeat calls.

Main Line Clog Emergency: common questions
Can I clear a main line clog myself?
A plunger can help with a single fixture, but a main line clog needs a machine that reaches many feet into the pipe. Chemical drain openers are not recommended for main lines and can make the repair harder and less safe.
How do I know it is the main line and not one drain?
If more than one fixture is slow, if the lowest drain backs up when you run something upstairs or if a toilet bubbles when the washer drains, the problem is likely in the main line.
How do I get a price for main line clog emergency?
